What Actually is Dedicated Hosting?

When we talk about hosting servers, there are three basic categories - hosting servers, VPS (virtual web hosting servers) and dedicated servers. Shared web hosting servers host many customers and therefore the system resources per user account are restricted, VPS offer more configuration autonomy, but also influence other private virtual web hosting servers on the hardware node if used unwisely, and dedicated servers offer you the freedom to carry out everything you please without messing with anyone else.

Why would you need a dedicated servers?

Dedicated servers are generally much more expensive than shared web hosting servers or VPS web servers. Why would anyone, then, want to use them? The explanation is pretty simple. If your firm has a high resource-demanding web site, or simply has very precise web server setup requirements, the most logical option is a dedicated servers. For someone who is ready to invest in safety and stability, the greater price is of no concern. You receive full server root privileges and can use 100 percent of the web hosting server's system resources without anyone else availing of these resources and interfering with your online portals.

Hardware architectures

Most website hosting vendors, incl. us at G Designz, provide several hardware architectures you can pick from in accordance with your requirements. The hardware architectures offer different kinds of microprocessors, a different amount of cores, different RAM and server hard drive sizes and different bandwidth allowances. You can choose a Control Panel, which is a useful tool if you wish to use the dedicated servers for website hosting purposes solely and choose not to use a Secure Shell console for all the modifications you will be making. We offer three sorts of hosting Control Panel software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.

The web hosting Control Panel of your preference

If you are a self-reliant Linux user (our servers are running on Linux or other Unix-based OSs), you could manage your dedicated servers via a Secure Shell client exclusively. That, though, could be awkward, especially if you decide to grant root-level access to somebody else who has less technical experience than yourself. This is why having hosting Control Panel software pre-activated is an intelligent idea. The Hepsia Control Panel interface that we provide does not give you full root access and is mostly appropriate for someone who owns many web portals that devour a lot of system resources, but prefers to administer the web pages, databases and mail accounts via an intuitive web hosting CP. The DirectAdmin and cPanel Control Panels, on the other hand, give you full root-level access and have three access levels - root, reseller and user. If you intend to resell hosting plans rather than using the dedicated servers solely for yourself, you should pick one of these two.

Server monitoring and backup procedures

Last but not least, there is the matter of monitoring the dedicated servers and of backing it up. In the event of a problem with your server, such as a non-responsive Apache or a downtime, it is useful to have some kind of monitoring system enabled. Here at G Designz the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you order a Managed Services upgrade, they monitor the individual services on the dedicated servers too. Backups are also a bonus feature - the hosting provider offers you data backups on our own backup web servers. You could pick a type of RAID that would permit you to keep the very same data on 2 server hard disk drives as a protective measure in case of a server hard drive failure, or in case someone whom you have given full root access deletes something accidentally.
